It all started when a woman couldn't find the cap to her laundry detergent. What followed was a serious debate about the "correct" way to do laundry.
In a viral TikTok video, a user named Iluka explained that she asked her boyfriend where he put the cap for the detergent. She was stunned when he told her that he just "fills it up and throws it in" with "all the clothes."
The social media user then shared a clip of her boyfriend scanning the detergent bottle, captioned, "He's so convinced this is normal that he's looking for 'where it says on the box.' "
She posted the video with the caption, "Mental behaviour in the house tonight."

While the woman was shocked by her partner's laundry hack, many users took to the comments to defend his behavior.
"My laundry detergent literally comes with reusable silicone measuring beakers that you can toss in the dispenser tray or directly in the wash with your clothes for a mess-free laundry experience," one person commented.
"I have done this my entire life! keeps the cap from getting sticky and gross and you use every last drop of your detergent dose," another commenter added. Getty Stock image of man doing laundry.
A third user noted that, while the poster's boyfriend was in the right, she didn't want to side with him in the debate. "He's 1000 percent right on this one. It pains me to take a man's side."
However, the comments section was split between those who sided with the boyfriend's laundry methods and those who couldn't fathom throwing the cap in with the wash.
"I was expecting all of these comments to be like yeah that's insane but instead I'm just more confused," someone else chimed in.
"In all my 26 years on earth, I've never seen or heard about anyone throwing the cap in the washing machine!" another person commented.

Others warned curious users to make sure they remove the cap before switching the laundry over to the dryer, as putting plastic like the detergent bottle cap in the dryer could be a fire hazard. "Just take it out when you switch the dryer and you don't have to worry about residue or dripping."
While the comments are divided about the best way to dispense detergent when doing laundry, many agreed that it's okay to do laundry differently from your partner. "Two differences can both be normal," one commenter noted.
