Jessica Simpson is celebrating her first Mother's Day as the mom of a teenager!
On Sunday, May 11, the singer, 44, marked the holiday by sharing highlights from a recent trip to Paris to celebrate her daughter Maxwell's 13th birthday. In a post on Instagram, she revealed that her mom, Tina Simpson, surprised the duo with the girls getaway to the French capital.
"My oldest, Maxwell, turned 13 in Paris on May 1st!!!" she wrote, later adding, "My Mom surprised us with the most beautiful celebration of Parisian life and love. 3 generations 3 connected hearts 3 spirit filled souls 3 women who smile, laugh and shine brighter through it all."
She added: "It is official...I AM THE MOTHER OF A TEENAGER and I LOVE IT."
Jessica's photo carousel featured shots of Maxwell enjoying some Parisian treats, visiting La Galerie Dior and doing some shopping. She also shared photos of the newly minted teen posing with her mom and doing a little skin pampering on the flight. Jessica Simpson/Instagram Jessica Simpson's daughter Maxwell in Paris
In addition to paying tribute to Maxwell — whom she shares with ex Eric Johnson (along with son Ace, 11, and daughter Birdie, 6) — Simpson also took a moment to offer fans some of her reflections on motherhood.
"Happy Mother’s Day to ALL! Life doesn’t come with instructions… it comes with Mamas! A Mother’s love is something no one could ever explain. It is made up of deep devotion, compassion, protection, sacrifice, comfort, persistency, intuition, hope, faithfulness, stamina and courage," she wrote.
"It is because of my Mother that I have learned that love begins not from being perfect (although it is profound perfect love), but by the very root of being present and consistent," she continued. "For everything I am today, my Mother’s love showed me the way. There is no role in my life more essential than that of motherhood." In January, Jessica and Johnson announced their separation exclusively with PEOPLE.
"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," the "Use My Heart Against Me" singer said in a statement at the time. "Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."
At the end of March, Jessica belatedly celebrated her younger daughter Birdie's sixth birthday with a sweet tribute on Instagram.
"On March 19th my baby lady, Birdie Mae, turned 6! I cannot get enough of her talkative, dramatic and wildly hilarious storytellin’, moment sharin’, day makin’, contagious laughin’, quick witted comedy!!!" she wrote. "Birdie is a one of a kind personality that can make the sun always shine and the moon beam on your every dream."
"Her favorite color is a pastel rainbow and sometimes she just favors all black...oh she just told me it is now green," she added. "She sings, she screams, she belly dances Bollywood, she knits, she flips and flops her way through gymnastics, she treasures tiny things, and appreciates all kinds of art. Birdie plays tennis and make believe, she’s a trampoline queen, a monkey bar champion, and always on time!"
In September, the “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer shared a rare back-to-school photo with all three of her kids on Instagram.
"Maxwell, Ace and Birdie y’all make your Mom beam with smiles and grace!” she wrote in the caption. “Keep on showin’ up for yourselves with each step of the way through this new school year!”
She added, "I’m so very proud of y’all for individually shining your light so that in return others feel the glow.”
